Calderdale College
On the 27th June 2000 Heatsave took part in a seminar, which was targeted principally at security within a college environment. Heatsave had a stand and took visitors on a tour of the plant rooms to give an idea of what could be achieved within an Energy Management Contract.
Heatsave replaced the old coal fired boilers at Percival Whitley College with four Hartley & Sugden 750 kW gas-fired boilers and at Halifax New College with two 350 kW gas-fired boilers.
The installation of the new gas-fired plant including new pipe work, stainless steel flues and flue liners and the new gas main was carried out without disruption to the school timetable. This involved maintaining a hot water supply to the kitchens and beauty salons throughout the working week.
Cofathec Heatsave has an energy management contract with the College, which requires the heating plant to be constantly monitored for maximum efficiency. Heatsave have installed a Trend Building Management System at the college, which is linked to the Heatsave Monitoring Centre. Any deviation from the design parameters causes an alarm to be sent automatically.
One of the major advantages of an Energy Management contract to the College (apart from energy cost savings) is our ability to make changes to the control strategy to match changes in the operation of the building. Where these changes do not involve additional equipment they are carried out at no cost to the College.
